The Auckland is a small, family run hotel offering stunning views over Morecambe Bay, an amazing natural amphitheatre surrounded by Lake District Mountains, beaches, and tidal mud flats. The hotel is  ideally placed for sitting and watching the spectacular sunsets.

The rooms are small, but clean and comfortable with en-suite bathrooms, tea & coffee making facilities,  flat screen televisions and wi-fi access. There are several ground floor disabled rooms. The food is plain and simple, consisting of traditional home-cooked family  favourites such as roast dinners and puddings with custard! There is a lift to the first and second floors. It has a limited number of parking spaces  but there is a car park opposite, by the lifeboat station which is free for blue badge holders and otherwise very modest charges  (if you park in the correct one), so do use the  Loading Only bay in front of the hotel to drop off your luggage and check with reception first! The bridge room is small so I have to restrict the holiday to a maximum of 8 tables.

Morecambe itself is a rundown seaside town which is doing its best to pull up its bootstraps. If you stand with your back to the town and look along the promenade, it is absolutely delightful, just don’t make the mistake of turning round! If you like a stroll, said promenade is also informative with circular plaques evenly spaced along its length with interesting facts about the area. This runs all the way to the charming village of Heysham.  The historic Winter Gardens are worth a look, though there is still a long way to go before they raise enough money for the hoped for renovation. If Art Deco interests you, why not try afternoon tea at the Midland Hotel visited by Poirot in the television series!

If you want to explore farther afield, Lancaster is within easy reach by bus, train or car.
