Bridge is fun!

 

I’ve been busy adding new holidays and checking out new hotels, so watch this space!

The most recent additions are:

A 4 night pre-Christmas break at the Bedford Hotel, Lytham St Annes, from the 15^th to 19^th December.

A Twixmas break at the North Euston Hotel, Fleetwood, with no restrictions on rooms for single occupancy, from the 27^th to 30^th December.

Below, you will a list of holidays in the next six months which are not fully booked.

The holiday at the Bedford from the 21^st to 24^th February has spaces following cancellations – sharing rooms from £318 per person and single occupancy of classic plus rooms for £363 including bridge.

The EXTRA HOLIDAY at the Bedford from the  7^th to 10^th March., added at the end of last year,  is already filling up. There are no single rooms or standard doubles for single occupancy left. At this time of year, it is possible to book a Classic Plus room for single occupancy for £384 including bridge. There are still some double occupancy rooms available.

 From the 24^th to 27^th March, I am back at the ever popular Cave Castle Hotel in South Cave, East Yorkshire. You do need a car if you want to explore the area as there is little in the way of public transport, though the hotel does have a gym and swimming pool free to guests and there is a spa and golf club on the site which offer discounts.

 From the 31^st March to the 4^th April, I will be up in the Scottish Borders at the Ednam House Hotel in Kelso where prices have been held at last year’s rates, so this may be the right time to experience this quirky hotel overlooking the river, but only if you can manage stairs! The official closing date for this holiday has gone, but it is still possible to book if the hotel has not sold the rooms.

 Immediately afterwards, from the 4^th to the 7^th April, I’ll be at the Auckland Hotel, a complete contrast. The Auckland is a small family-run hotel, spotlessly clean and well-maintained, serving up plain food well cooked.

 There’s quite a gap then to accommodate a private Bridge Club holiday, Easter and my 70^th birthday before I’m off to the Kensington Hotel in Llandudno from the 28^th April to the 1^st May. This is a basic hotel. The food and accommodation are reflected in the price, but there’s nothing wrong with the food and the rooms are spotless and contain everything you need. The best features are the ballroom for bridge and the car park which has always been big enough to accommodate everyone. Then, of course, there is Llandudno itself which is the icing on the cake. Again, I’ve run out of rooms for single occupancy, though last year, the hotel did allocate me some more closer to the holiday.

After that, there’s another trip to the ever popular Bedford Hotel, Lytham St Annes, for a 3 night holiday from the 9^th to 12^th May. Sorry, no single occupancy rooms left, just a few rooms for double occupancy only.

 

Then, from the 16^th to 19^th May, I shall be at the Shap Wells Hotel, famous for its red squirrel population. This is another hotel where you really need a car as it is literally in the middle of nowhere, just outside the village of Shap though only minutes from the M6 on the way to Penrith and lunch may not be available in the hotel. It has greatly improved over recent years and is one of Patrick’s favourites. You do need to let me know if you struggle with stairs as some of the rooms can only be accessed via the odd short flight. Strangely enough, it’s the 2^nd floor which is the most level and fully accessible by the lift.

I’ve just one space for the 5 night holiday at the Netherwood, Grange-over-Sands from the 15^th to 20^th June.

There are more places available at the North Euston Hotel in Fleetwood from the 23^rd to 26^th June. While Fleetwood might not be everybody’s idea of a holiday destination, the North Euston is very popular with my guests. It offers pub-type meals typical of the 1970’s, so expect prawn cocktail, chicken a la king and black forest gateau. Being such a large hotel, the rolling program of updating takes a while to reach all the rooms. I’m always fascinated by the ever-changing views of the sea and the friendliness of the staff. This hotel does not restrict the number of rooms I’m allowed for single occupancy.

There’s just one holiday in July. It’s at the Skipton Hotel (formerly the Rendezvous) from the 21^st to 24^th July. March sold out, so if you fancy a trip to Skipton, you need to book early. The hotel calculates prices by room rates, so a double occupancy room costs £570 plus bridge and there is a £135 discount for single occupancy. Prices on my website are quoted per person. DEADLINE FOR BOOKING 20^TH MAY 2025.

I have dates for most of my 2026 holidays and, for those without prices, I am taking provisional bookings to be confirmed or cancelled once I let you know the prices. If you have a favourite room, it pays to book early – I already have 23  people who have already booked for December 2026!
